Trailways Recognizes Performance & Operations ExcellenceFairfax, VAOutstanding fleet and individual driver safety practices, leadership, marketing, and other achievements during 2007 were in the spotlight during Trailways' 72nd annual conference in Los Angeles, CA.
David Fine of Martz Trailways in Wilkes-Barre, PA captured Driver of the Year Award (Scheduled Route Division), and Thomas Gaudet of Adirondack Trailways in Hurley, NY was named Driver of the Year (Charter & Tour Division).
Trailways honors its drivers for demonstrated professionalism and documented safe performance records. Criteria include miles driven, number of preventable accidents, work attendance, and passenger, employer, and customer testimonials.
"There is no greater priority for Trailways than the safety and security of our customers," said Gale Ellsworth, Trailways president. "The honors we give our members and employees underscore the standards we continue to ride on through our eighth decade of operation."
Trailways fleet service awards represent a ratio of miles drive to the number of recorded preventable accidents. Top honors went to the following companies:
Northeast Region: New York Trailways of Hurley, NY-Scheduled Route Division, with over two million miles traveled.
Southeast Region: Travel Mates Trailways of Harrisonburg, VA-Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles traveled-tied with Louisiana Trailways of Marrero, LA- Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles traveled.
Southwest Region: Arrow Trailways of Killeen, TX-Scheduled Route Division, with less than two million miles traveled; Sun Travel Trailways of Beaumont, TX-Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles traveled- tied with Arrow Trailways of Killeen, TX-Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles traveled-and Lone Star Trailways of Tyler, TX-Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles traveled.
Midwest Region: Dixon-Meyers Trailways of Rochelle, IL-Charter & Tour Division, with less than two million miles travel.
Canada: Greater Canadian Trailways of Kitchener, ON-Charter & Tour Division, with over two million miles traveled.
Most Improved Fleet Service Award for Safety: Central States Trailways of St. Louis, MO (Charter & Tour Division).
Most Improved, Fleet Service Award for Safety: New York Trailways of Hurley, NY (Scheduled Route Division).
Also recognized for exemplary performances or achievements were:
Miller Trailways of Louisville, KY: the Anew Generation of Outstanding Motorcoach Service award.
Central States Trailways of St. Louis, MO: Outstanding Employee Achievements award.
Flagship Trailways of Johnston, RI: Most Team Spirit award (Charter & Tour Division).
New York Trailways of Hurley, NY: Most Team Spirit award (Scheduled Route Division).
Alan Thrasher of Thrasher Brothers Trailways in Birmingham, AL took home the Leadership by Example award.
Jerry Williams of Lone Star Trailways in Tyler, TX received the Outstanding Volunteer award.
Innovative and creative marketing initiatives were also in the Trailways awards spotlight for 2007:
Gentry Trailways of Knoxville, TN received Best Product -Service Literature award (Division One).
Fullington Trailways of Clearfield, PA took home Best Motor Coach Design for 2006-2007 award (Division One).
Lone Star Trailways of Tyler, TX got Best Magazine/Publication Advertisement for 2006-2007 award (Division One).
Lancaster Trailways of the Carolinas in Lancaster, SC received Best Public Relations/Promotions 2006-2007 award (Division One).
Martz Trailways of Wilkes-Barre, PA received Best Product-Service Literature award (Division II).
