Team Trailways Gains Florida Gateways

Fairfax, VA - Express Trailways of Orlando, FL has joined First Class Trailways of St. Petersburg and Endeavor Trailways of Miami, in expanding the important Central and South Florida tourism and hospitality markets for Team Trailways' global network of independent motorcoach companies. Express Trailways is based in Orlando and has a satellite office in Miami.

Gale Ellsworth, Trailways president, said her team looks forward to the expansion Express Trailways brings to the system. "Florida is a very important tourism and transportation market, and we are pleased to have the expertise our new member brings to us in that region."

CW Newman, vice president, said he and company founder Marcello Machado expect their recent Trailways affiliation to boost both their company's marketing and operations components.

"We have been impressed with the Trailways network for many years," said Newman, "and because we are active in motorcoach industry organizations, we know about half of the team companies already. And we know Express Trailways will benefit from networking for both new business opportunities and road support wherever we travel."

Newman cited a recent incident when one of Express' coaches was carrying a tour group through upstate New York. The coach was parked at a hotel when the driver discovered the engine would not start. "The driver called headquarters to say Adirondack Trailways was right across the street, so we contacted them and within less than an hour they had their mechanics on our coach to get us rolling again. This is the kind of support that makes Team Trailways a great partner for us," he said.

Founded in 1993, Express Trailways launched with three vans with which it provided local Orlando transportation services to inbound South American visitors. Theme park and airport transfers were primary, as general charter opportunities developed, said Newman.  Today the company operates a fleet of 22 full-size motorcoaches; three coaches are housed in their Miami office. The company continues to serve many inbound international visitors who use both Miami and Orlando as gateways for their Florida tours.

Express Trailways also provides convention shuttle services, school charters, and overland tours to destinations such as Washington, DC and New York City. The company also provides transport services for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), and like all Trailways stockholder companies, maintains stringent DOD safety certification. Only DOD -rated companies may transport military personnel.
